Novartis UK has announced that, effective 1 February 2022, Roland Kreissig has been appointed to the role of Oncology General Manager, Novartis UK and Ireland.
Roland Kreissig joins the UK organisation following a 17-year career within Novartis, where his priorities have been addressing the barriers to access for innovative oncology treatments and driving a truly unbossed culture within the company. As a trained physician, his dedication to the care of people is a vital part of who he is and how he leads.
Supporting the Novartis ambition to reimagine medicine, Roland will be leading with the UK team to finalise an organisational transformation that embraces a move to new external engagement models supported by data and digital. The transformation also focuses on building bold partnerships with the NHS to improve access to treatments and address the post-COVID backlog and health inequalities in cancer care.
With broad experience leading teams in global and local contexts, in big and small markets, on established and launch brands, Roland joins Novartis UK from Hungary, where he held the position of Oncology General Manager (OGM) for Central Europe. He successfully led this region with responsibility for 15 countries, as well as holding the position of Country President of Hungary for five years.
Roland has held several previous roles at Novartis in the US including Vice President & Global Marketing Disease Leader for the Myeloproliferative Neoplasms and Multiple Myeloma Franchise, and US Marketing Director for Novartis Rare Diseases Franchise based in New Jersey, United States; alongside spending four years in Global Marketing & Strategy roles for the Infectious Diseases Franchise at Novartis Pharma Switzerland. Before joining Novartis, Roland worked for McKinsey & Company in Berlin, Germany. He started his career as Resident Medical Doctor at the Radiology Department at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, one of the largest university hospitals in Europe. Roland holds both an MD and PhD in Medicine from the University of Hamburg, Germany.
Commenting on his new role, “I am hugely looking forward to joining the Novartis UK team and with my new colleagues, continuing to push the boundaries of innovation in oncology. With bold science, we strive for cures and to reimagine medicine that will transform the lives of people living with cancer,” said Roland Kreissig, newly appointed Oncology General Manager, Novartis UK and Ireland.
